Dr.Venugopal in the opening chapter of his talks with Zuzana Zwiebel unravels the secrets of authentic Ayurveda healing philosophy. He explains, why "we are the ayurveda and why the ayurveda is us".
"I understood, that from my birth, inside me, there was Ayurveda. What I was calling my spirituality, what I was calling my inner self going towards nature, all is Ayurveda. For me Ayurveda is me and I am Ayurveda."
DR. VENUGOPAL V.A.
Ayurveda, people say it is the science of life, but what is life? Is Ayurveda just a health science like any other health science? Is it health science how to improve your health with some supplements? Or, how to try to treat yourself? Or, try to go for some exercises? Is it certain lifestyle modifications? Is this Ayurveda?
According to me, Ayurveda is totally different. Ayurveda is the science of helping a common individual to understand how to live comfortably throughout his life using what is available in this universe. I call it as a universe because Ayurveda is universal.
The most of the health sciences they have specifications. They tell you: Live like this! Do like that! Otherwise you are going to get into problems. According to Ayurveda, there is nothing like good and bad. Whatever you have, this has to be used. There are no dos and don'ts.
Ayurveda gives so much of a big canvas that you can play, you can move around. You can use everything, but you have to know how to use it and have a beautiful healthy physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual functioning. This is what Ayurveda means for me.
Dr.Venugopal, hails from Kerala, where Ayurveda is practiced as far back as 5000 years ago. He is a Ayurveda lifestyle promoter, yoga practitioner, pranic healer, traditional counselor and promoter of many traditional alternative therapies. He is associated with many Ayurvedic, traditional social and spiritual activities. His vision is to spread Ayurveda around the world.
If you mean - Ayurveda as the health science and practicing the Ayurveda treatments, then - no. And I’m thankful that I did not born into a family of Ayurveda practitioners (with all good respect!). The reason is, that the Ayurveda philosophy is different from its application. Ayurveda application to a large extent means treatments now.
So what happens is if I have a family where they have been treating people, I’ll be a good ayurvedic treatment person, which I do not want to! Because Ayurveda isn't about the treatment. It’s more than treatment. It’s more than medicine. It’s more than the food and the diet.
Ayurveda is a philosophy, which has to be imparted. It has to be spread. The concept has to be applied to the changing modern scenario. Somewhere, people have to contribute. My wish is to promote Ayurveda. I’m more of a concept promoter.
I am really happy that I don't have a traditional Ayurvedic family to support me in my Ayurveda activity. My journey into Ayurveda was a very surprising and a beautiful blessing from the Almighty.
After my studies, I represented pharmaceutical companies and I was trying to promote nutritional supplements. At the same time I was keen on yoga, nature cure and so many other healing therapies. I was also interested into the Indian spirituality because of my late father. When I came across traditional Ayurveda, what attracted me was its philosophy. It was my passion!
My stint at that time was to promote Ayurveda products, Ayurveda manufacturing and Ayurveda treatments - what normally people do - but I didn't do it. Somewhere I left that activity, I've been deep into the promotion of Ayurveda philosophy.
The journey started continuing because I understood, that from my birth, inside me, there was Ayurveda. What I was calling my spirituality, what I was calling my inner self going towards nature - is all Ayurveda. Once this feeling came in, it was just a journey and it continues. It's a flow now. For me Ayurveda is me and I am Ayurveda. I just continued to spread what I know, what I feel, what I experienced.
