Somatheeram, the world’s first Ayurveda hospital set in a resort ambiance to provide Ayurveda treatments. It is located at Chowara Beach with over 15 acres of greenery all around on a hillock 9 km south of the famous Kovalam Beach, Trivandrum, Kerala, India.
The principles of Vastu Shastra, an ancient art, how to build and construct houses considering environment, flow of the energy and nature elements - were considered during the designing and construction process of the resort. Nature is part of it. The houses and cottages are hidden under the shade of the tropical trees. The most of them have small herb and flower gardens in the front and provide a nice sea view. All the houses are built from eco-friendly materials, properly ventilated to allow natural airflow. Also sunlight movement during the day was taken into the consideration. All these small things make one to stay on for longer and to visit this place again and again.
Standard rooms (11 Non A/C) are offering comfortable economic stay in interconnected ground floor building with outside sitting area. The rooms do not have direct sea view, but they are surrounded by the lush green garden close to ayurveda center. The rooms do not have air-condition, but they are properly ventilated and provided with fans and mosquito nets. Each bedroom has attached bathrooms with modern facilities.
Garden Cottages (30 A/C) are independent cottages built with natural materials of mud and bricks. The cottages are hidden in the garden under the shade of the tropical trees. They offer air-condition, but they are properly ventilated and provided with fans and mosquito nets. Each bedroom has attached bathrooms with modern facilities.
Special Cottages (11 Non A/C, 15 A/C) are independent round or square shaped thatched cottage with full or partial sea view. They are situated closer to restaurant area and edge of the Chowara Beach cliff. They are built with natural materials of mud and bricks with beautiful outside sitting area facing the garden. They offer air-condition, but they are properly ventilated and provided with fans and mosquito nets. Each bedroom has attached bathrooms with modern facilities.
Kerala House Standard (9 A/C) is a traditional Kerala wooden house with antique doors and furniture. Independent villas with a spacious veranda are facing lush green garden around the swimming pool area close to edge of the Chowara Beach cliff. They offer air-condition, but they are properly ventilated and provided with fans and mosquito nets. Each bedroom has attached bathrooms with modern facilities.
The whole Kerala House (AC) has one suite room and two deluxe rooms rented separately. It is a traditional Kerala wooden house with antique doors, furniture and spacious veranda facing lush green garden around the swimming pool area close to edge of the Chowara Beach cliff. Rooms offer air-condition, but they are properly ventilated and provided with fans and mosquito nets. Each bedroom has attached bathrooms with modern facilities.
