EXPERIENCE THE ONENESS THROUGH NOTHIGNESS...

The word shoonya means ‘voidness’ or ‘emptiness’. It is often used by Buddhists to describe the indescribable state of nirvana, supreme enlightenment. In this context it does not mean, as often believed, a state of nothingness. It means exactly the opposite: a state of totality, of oneness, devoid of ego, devoid of even the slightest turmoil, craving or dissatisfaction. It also expresses openness and acceptance.

METHOD
  • Rest the palms in the lap or thighs with the palms facing up
  • The fingers are not spread apart, they are gently touching each other and the thumb rests against the index finger.

MERIDIAN EFFECTS

Shoonya mudra has a deep and multi layered balancing effect on the yin-yang relationship achieved. Out of these opposite and complementing cosmic qualities emerges Qi, vital force that permeates the whole of creation. By resting the back of the hands and wrists in the lap, yang meridians in the hands and wrists are connected with yin meridians that run along the inner side of the legs and lower abdomen. The upper part of the body is yang in relation to the lower part of the body, which is yin. The consequent interchange that happens between these two basic qualities in the body keeps the interplay between the two in perfect balance. A state of pure harmony, tranquillity, stability (yin qualities) is complemented with alertness, mindfulness, stamina (yang qualities). In addition, the palms facing up expose yin meridians in the hands to the influence of yang from the outer space. The human being as an individual is yin in relation to the surrounding space and existence. They become one, the individual merges with universal. A state of oneness and completeness is the result.
